About Us: History
Then I said to them, You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.

When the walls in Jerusalem had been broken down, God called Nehemiah to rebuild them. Like Jerusalems walls, many of Nicaraguas physical, social, and spiritual structures have been broken down by natural disasters, civil wars, and government corruption. The Nehemiah Centers purpose is to rebuild Nicaragua by equipping its present and potential leaders with a biblical worldviewa crucial foundation for the growth of this country and its people.
To equip them, the Nehemiah Center's Ezra national training staff, a group of committed Nicaraguan Christian leaders, facilitate training and consultation throughout Nicaragua. The Ezra strategy is to develop agents of transformation in family, church, education, business, government, youth, and the arts/media.
The Nehemiah Center began in 1999 after a vision conference attended by 200 pastors and community development workers on biblical worldview and transformational development. The response to the conference crossed denominational and political barriers. Shortly thereafter, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, Food for the Hungry, and Christian Reformed World Missions decided to collaborate to nurture the movement begun by Holy Spirit at the conference.
Since then these three organizations have been joined by other international partners:
- Caribbean Ministries Association
- LifeWind International
- Missionary Ventures International
- Partners in Christ International
- Partners Worldwide
- Worldwide Christian Schools
- Focus on the Family
These other international partners support the work of the Nehemiah Center and are important sources of finances, personnel, ideas, teaching materials, and strategies.
